--- Begin Message ---Looks to me like the preinst check is doing exactly what it's meant to here. Your extra (old) copies of libc and friends in /lib would end up becoming your new libc.so.6 when ldconfig ran, and break all the things on your system that depend on a newer libc. The check is trying to prevent you from landing in exactly this situation. Removing or moving the old copies was the right thing to do. ... Adam
