Thanks Santiago for a quick reply, but I don't think we can guess that
much here. Tt will be  better to get an answer from those who last
worked on golang-go.crypto.

It does not look like a throw-away thing to me in this case, but
something that probably was intended to get on the main packaging
branch of golang-go.crypto, perhaps after some delay showing no
regressions. But a month already passed so decided to ping here.
