I see.  Thanks for the clarification.  It seems I don't need to worry
about it for quite some time.

However this still leave me wondering how the module compatibility is
handled.  Is there a easy way to check?  The only thing I know is the
SONAME of libgtk-x11-2.0.so (which I think isn't quite relevant) and
libgtk2.0-0.shlibs (which is >= 2.4.4, but doesn't say when to change
again, and it won't prevent broken upgrade anyway because of the >=
dependency).
