Hi, I am closing this bug because it does not pertain to the Debian imlib packages.

Imlib is part of the GNOME version 1 application binary interface which is based on libpng2; therefore the Debian imlib packages link with libpng2. Some technical details about this decision can be found in the thread starting at http://lists.debian.org/debian-gtk-gnome/2002/debian-gtk-gnome-200201/msg00007.html This is the second bug report inside of a week about imlib and libpng, so I surmise that there is a bogus imlib package floating around. Can someone find out who made it and LART them, please. Point them at /usr/share/doc/imlib-base/README.Debian. If anyone wants to make a package with imlib linked against libpng3, they need to change its SONAME, and hence package name.
