from the description (apt-get show ...), fam can monitor remote files trough RPC, for which it needs protmap. Both are small packages and really not painfull to install, even on a slow modem line. Would you feel better if the code contained in those was forked and duplicated in the gnome libs ? Friendly, Sven Luther
