It seems it's an issue caused by msttcorefonts' defoma integration. Look at /usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType. Are there no font files anymore? Then you have to add FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType" FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/CID" to XF86Config-4 (look at the x-ttcidfont-conf package for the reason).
