Yes, that what was I was trying to say. :-) When you restart GDM as root, your shell has read /etc/environment. So it speaks the language set by LANG. But if you reboot the machine, it is back to English. At least for me, it is. -- Ole Laursen http://www.cs.auc.dk/~olau/
