I am seeing the same problem on sid/powerpc, and I have not been able to diagnose it. It started on Friday (2003-09-26) after upgrading for the first time in about a week. Several dozen packages were upgraded, including glibc. When I log in, gnome-panel hangs, taking up all of the CPU along with gnome-settings-daemon. There are no errors in .xsession-errors. I tried downgrading a handful of likely packages, including gnome-panel and gnome-control-center. I also tried logging in as a newly-created user. Neither of these solved the problem. When I have time, I can try downgrading libc6 and other packages. Are there anything else I should look at?
