abiword-gnome preferred?

i was thinking "abiword-gnome" should be preferred over straight 
"abiword" as a dependency for the "gnome" and "gnome-office" 
metapackages. up until recently i couldn't even print with the 
non-gnome version, but i see in changelogs this has just been fixed. 
if there was a "gtk-office" package i can see it preferring the 
non-gnome edition.

is this just "the way things are"? or did someone make a necessary 
decision on how things need to be? is it worth filing a bug over?
