So, it seems to me like we do have a naming problem with some libs, that should be named, for example, libgnome-2-0. I am willing to go through the gnome packages and find such inconsistencies to file bug reports about them, but I think we should have the renaming scheduled for gnome2.6, leaving gnome2.4 in its current state.
(Maybe I could even extend that research to all of Debian, but I'd rather try it out with GNOME first).
So, what do you think? Shall I proceed?
No time like the present, especially while GNOME 2.6 is still in experimental. You're not going to get another chance to do this so easily until GNOME 2.8.
