Did I mention that my hurd partition straddles the 500MB line and I have one of those old controllers? Once when I untarred a hurd onto it, it couldn't boot because boot/gnumach was (I guess) beyond 500MB. Now I'm kind of assuming that I wouldn't get this far if that were a concern this time.
