Unfortunately, the Hurd filesystems (ffs and ext2fs) currently have an implementation limitation that makes them unable to handle disk partitions bigger than about 1GB. (They map the entire disk partition into their memory, so it and everything else has to fit in the 2GB address space user tasks get in Mach.)
