I wrote a bug report about this, see: http://bugs.debian.org/37670 It seems the pager doesn't parse Linux swap headers properly. It should work if you add the partition with $(add-raw-paging-file), but then it'll overwrite the header and you'll have to add mkswap in your GNU/Linux boot scripts.
