Text mode support in new video cards

In my understanding the text mode support in video cards will be deprecated
in the near future.  Doesn't it has to be covered in GNU Mach, the Hurd and
GRUB architectures asap?

    I suppose that this will have to be covered but isn't a primary matter,
but, on the other hand, architectural support must be added.  This way it
will be less work in the future.

    As a side note I have the Hurd in working shape in my Dell CPi laptop,
I am happy :)
