Sorry about the mess. There were some consecutive changes necessary and somehow I managed not to be able to sync them with the cross-install file. I believe all problems are resolved with the following script: http://www.debian.org/ports/hurd/extra-files/cross-install http://www.debian.org/ports/hurd/extra-files/native-install Unfortunately, I was a little sloppy with the version numbers, so please refetch these files to be sure to get the latest version. > in my install.log there are a lot of > errors like this one: > ----------- > dpkg-deb: building package `ae' in `temp_build/ae.deb'. > dpkg - warning, overriding problem because --force enabled: > package architecture (hurd-i386) does not match system (i386) > Selecting previously deselected package ae. > (Reading database ... 0 files and directories currently installed.) > ----------- > > it seems to me that someone told that the third line is due to some bug... No, those are not harmful, because we use --force-architecture. They appear only because we are installing from a non-Hurd system. > anyway, cross-install also prints these errors on console: > > --------------- > dpkg did return unusual messages, please investigate: > > dpkg: error processing temp_build/hurd.deb (--unpack): > trying to overwrite `/etc/motd', which is also in package base-files > dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe) > Errors were encountered while processing: > temp_build/hurd.deb > --------------- > > the error about /etc/motd was there also during the first installation. i'm > not sure about the other. Yeah, two problems here. The "dpkg-hurd" invocations in the script are missing "--force-overwrite" and the grep is missing the "trying to overwrite". Both are fixed in the latest version of the script. Alternatively, you could try hurd-19990725 package, which does not contain /etc/motd anymore. Thanks, Marcus -- `Rhubarb is no Egyptian god.'
