hi. i hope this is the appropriate forum for this sort of desperate flailing.
i followed the instructions at http://www.pick.ucam.org/~mcv21/hurd.html to get hurd running on my debian box. i ran cross-install, got through the boot process with GRUB 0.4, start booting the hurd, and get stopped by panic: cannot load user-bootstrap image: error code 6000 some relevant information: the hurd was cross-installed onto /dev/hda2 . i grabbed all the debs from dists/sid on ftp.debian.org on 11/11/99 and cross-install, native-install, and dpkg-hurd executables from www.debian.org/ports/hurd/extra-files also on 11/11/99. here's the partition table: Disk /dev/hda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 784 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hda1 * 1 653 5245222 83 Linux native /dev/hda2 654 752 795217+ 83 Linux native /dev/hda3 753 768 128520 82 Linux swap /dev/hda4 769 784 128520 82 Linux swap i used the grub floppy from the command line with parameters root=(hd0,1) boot=/boot/gnumach.gz root=hd0s2 -s # see below module=/boot/serverboot.gz boot some confusion on my part on how to specify the root partition, so i tried a couple of combinations (hd0s1, hd1s1, hd1s2, etc.) with no success. any help would be greatly appreciated. -- p
