I'm having problems with dpkg. I managed to get gnu-19991025.tar.gz booted, but about 3/4 of my installed packages fail to configure, with the error message
dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute post-installation script: Not a directory I have tried to install other packages, but dpkg just hangs.
