My pessimistic guess was that the first official release of the Hurd would happen with everything else in Debian 3.4, so keeping the releases in sync. While I think this is the correct thing to do, others may argue that it should be "Debian GNU/Linux 3.4" and "Debian GNU (Hurd) 1.0".
