Yesterday out of a whim I tried to install Gnu/Hurd K6 images on qemu (Debian package qemu) with a 512MB image, emulated CDROM (the K6 image file) and the grub_092 boot floppy. | Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed |/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Description +++-==============-==============-============================================ ii qemu 0.5.4-1 Fast x86 Processor Emulator
http://eu.hurd.gnuab.org/pub/debian-cd/K6/ Some questions/observations: In the instructions for K5 it says that the grub_092 image is included on the CD-ROM. I did not find it there. see: http://www.debian.org/ports/hurd/hurd-cd I did find one by googling for the filename: client21% md5sum.textutils Downloads/grub_0.92 98c9d3f4e9cd1c7066a7a84f740c2d35 Downloads/grub_0.92 which seems to be the right one. Is this a problem with the CD or are the instructions old? After the first reboot (first boot with Grub into Hurd) I did not know which item to select: See Screenshot at http://www.pangea.at/~ralph/hurdboot.png I do think this menu is a bit confusing. None of the "PREFERRED" options worked, so I selected hd0s1 single-user, which did actually boot fine. I ran native-hurd once, rebooted, ran native-hurd a second time. After some setup, qemu crashed. I think I will file a bug against quemu. But the other items above should also be relevant to "normal" installs. Also I would love to hear if somebody else successfuly installed the Hurd on qemu! Thanks for your efforts with Debian Gnu/Hurd! /ralph
