You could also try to remove some cards from your Computer. About cross-compiling, you can compile gnumach natively on GNU/Linux, no need to cross-compile. There is a Debian gnumach package, just get the source package, hack debian/rules to only --enable the drivers you need, and rebuild. Otherwise, apply the patches which are in debian/patches or you won't be able to properly compile on GNU/Linux.
