Hi. I just uploaded a new dpkg to experimental (so it is in incoming currently) which features significant changes to dpkg-shlibdeps that hopefully get rid of both the problems with biarch builds and with symlinked directories.
I have made some tests that indicate it really fixes these problems but I would encourage you to verify that yourself and report wether it's true or not. Unless there are any big problem it is planned to upload this dpkg version to unstable at the end of the week.
