I have egg all over my face! (I made a fool of myself). The problem is with apt, and it does not matter. Hurd copied the DVD fautlessly onto the HDD. It took 2.5 hours. Then I discovered that apt-cdrom now worked and it has no problems with the DVD. Going to bed!
