It rather seems that it's last *hurd* upload: using ext2fs.static from the weekly-1 image does boot fine. The difference is 1:0.5.git20140526-2 vs 1:0.5.git20140526-2+b1, the latter being rebuilt against libparted2, that probably can make a difference.
