Based on your post, I tried the following command six times, ans got the hang as before each time: rm debian-hurd-20190705.img && tar xJf debian-hurd.img.tar.xz && kvm -m 1G -smp cpus=1,cores=1 -drive file=debian-hurd-20190705.img,cache=writeback
