Few days ago ISO-8859-16 was accepted, this standard can be ordered from www.iso.ch.
I have couple of fonts available with this encoding. This charset is the only one where Romanians can find their letters from alphabet. I was using for two years now this line in my /etc/locale.gen: ro_RO ISO-8859-16 and this setings from my locales: e164179:~> locale LANG=ro_RO LC_CTYPE=ro_RO LC_NUMERIC=ro_RO LC_TIME=ro_RO LC_COLLATE=ro_RO LC_MONETARY=ro_RO LC_MESSAGES=en_US LC_PAPER="ro_RO" LC_NAME="ro_RO" LC_ADDRESS="ro_RO" LC_TELEPHONE="ro_RO" LC_MEASUREMENT="ro_RO" LC_IDENTIFICATION="ro_RO" LC_ALL= locale charmap give this: e164179:~> locale charmap ISO-8859-16 My question is if you consider to change the default encoding for Romanian language. If you need to know more about Romanian language and alphabet I am glad to explain you. Ionel Ciobica
