Package maintainers and translators, this is for you: While tracking down a bug in the way french translation statistics were shown (we were recorded as 104% translated yesterday), Denis Barbier found an important problem in several packages using po-debconf.
It seems that several packages had outdated PO files in debian/po. "Outdated" here means that the english debconf templates were modified after including the translation(s) in the package source tree but debconf-updatepo was not run. Many reasons may explains this, but most often this is due to the maintainer not using up-to-date debconf or po-debconf version....or not using debhelper scripts. The french team will probably, in the next days/weeks, send bugreports to these packages with the text below. Package maintainers, if you receive these bug reports, please follow the given instructions and make your possible for uploading a fixed versions ASAP. This will help all translation teams in working on the correct files. Translators and translation teams, please use the links on Denis Barbier pages (http://people.debian.org/~barbier/intl/l10n/po-debconf) for downloading the po files which need updates. DO NOT USE the source packages....or run debconf-updatepo on them. Bug report text: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors. It is likely that, for some reason, the *.po files you currently have in debian/po in your source tree were outdated. This is probably because you modified the english templates and omit to update the debian/po directory by running the "debconf-updatepo" command. BEFORE COPYING the fr.po file to debian/po, PLEASE RUN debconf-updatepo on your source tree. Running debconf-updatepo is mandatory after each templates modification. This is automatically done when using dh_installdebconf on up-to-date systems. If you do not use debhelper scripts (but you really should...at least for debconf stuff), please add "debconf-updatepo" at the appropriate place (before the po2debconf line) in your debian/rules file.
