It should, surely. I made such changes for my own geneweb package so that it uses iso_639 names for languages. This may be tricky, however, as there is currently no utility or library for exploiting iso-codes data (this is one idea I have lying around�: building a iso-codes-utils package) don't forget to complete the Debian Installer dutch translation, also..:-)
