The thing that trips my eyes as I read it is that the *main* sentence
refers (“the same version”) to something that is parenthetical (“version
${running}”). If it's necessary for the main sentence, it shouldn't be
parenthetical.
So, taking into account the other quirks you noted, here's my minimal
improvement:
You are running kernel version ${running}, and the current action
requires removing the same version.
I assume this is a lead-in for a further statement along the lines of
“This could cause your computer to stop working immediately” or similar.
