Well, I didn't need sudo access to shutdown the webserver (you need the webserver to test it anyway). Would've been nice to be able to view the webserver error logs, but I figured the problems out eventually. Anyway, the "upgrade" is done, everything appears to work. Not sure if the performance is comparable but it should no longer corrupt itself at random intervals anymore.
