Dear "Laboratory",
We in our Bashkir University want to start a Bashkir translation of Debian PO-files. But it is really hard to find any guide for a new language translation. What we need to do first?
basically you take the source, copy whatever.pot to whatever.<your_language_code> and start translating. There are specialised editors such as Lokalize (KDE), but basically you can take any editor.
To get an overview, run "info gettext". You may also want to have a look at (1) for configuration dialogues, (2) documentation (mainly manual pages), (3) program messages. There you will find links to the pot files.
