Using Iceweasel, and Gnome file-roller (squeeze) everything is standard.

Must be due to a double encoding issue with the POT files and some
(most?) browsers. You either need to gunzip the content twice, or
download the file with a simple tool known to work, as wget.

i18n.d.o admins, could we add something in the Apache config to avoid
this double encoding mess?

It looks like debconf stuff got removed from unstable, you can get it
directly from the source (“apt-get source live-build=3.0~a51-1”),
attached here for convenience.
