If security is a concern, I'd suggest using either the 2.4.17 kernel in stable
or the 2.4.25 kernel in sid.  The 2.4.25 kernel will support more hardware, but
you will need to follow these instructions to use it:

Matt Taggart is setting up a backport repository for these kernels for woody 
systems,
but it's not ready yet.
