That's fake RAID. You may be better off using Linux software RAID instead. I've never used fake RAID because it's a junk solution, if you can call it a solution. Get a real hardware SATA RAID controller like a 3ware, Mylex (LSI Logic), or Adaptec. You'll be much happier in the long run.
