Well, -O1 still does optimize things here and there... you could check with
-O0, but... yes, hardly anyone cares about debian-ia64 anymore :-/ I do wonder
about SuSE, though. Surely if it's something compiler and optimization
specific, they'd have hit it by now too (no idea what kernel/compiler version
they're at nowadays).
