The hub (DFE908Dx) is 10/100 switchable but only half duplex. I suppose
if the card thought it was full duplex it would behave oddly... but
generally the symptoms of a duplex mismatch are massively reduced
connection speed, whereas the FA311 only seems about 20% slower than the
3com.
