It has to be this line: sed 's/^\([^:]*\):[^:]*/\1:x/' /etc/passwd > etc/passwd If the working directory is / for some reason, then the shell overwrites etc/passwd before sed reads it. What is your $(postconf -h queue_directory)? Does it exist?
