How do I activate IPv6?

Hi,
I�m new IPv6 user...
I�m trying to activate IPv6 in my network to test. How can I achieve this?
I have installed Debian 3.0r4, woody official i386.
<modprobe ipv6> fails...
I inserted <alias net-pf-10 ipv6> in /etc/modules.conf and no success...
Is it necessary to compile kernel ?
