I said that IPSec was probably the "best" way because it's a standard protocol, with companies such as Microsoft and Cisco supporting it and it's supposed to be built into IPv6 if/when we ever see that.
As for how it compares, I have no idea. FreeS/WAN is the only implementation of IPSec I've used so I won't try to say that it's better or worse than any other implementation. j. -- Jeremy L.
