I hate been using Cyclonic webmail www.greyguy.com.au for several months now (not a debian package).
It connects to the pop3 server so it doesn't matter what your system setup is (mbox, maildir, etc). The logon screen doesn't give ANY error messages if your login fails, and there's a few other little problems, buit appart from that it has worked well for me. There are sevral versions ranging from free (for commercial use) to enterprise.
