ho risolto modificando /etc/X11/xorg.conf aggiungendo nella sezione
Files le seguenti righe
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi"
