Risoluzione modificata all'avvio di gnome

Ciao a tutti,
come da oggetto, mi succede che quando avvio gnome lo fa con risoluzione 640x480 anzichè in 1024x768, e se vado in "Risoluzione dello schermo" non c'è la possibilità di cambiare la risoluzione. 
Se clikko ctrl+alt+backspace gnome si riavvia bene con risoluzione giusta.
Cosa può essere e come posso risolvere?
