help: kinput2 activization

Hello

I'm having trouble in writing in japanese because 'space+shift' won't do
anything even though 'kinput2 -wnn' is running. I'm running the latest
woody and I did run set-language-env with ja. What could be wrong?

Also Netscape won't display japanese in bookmarks and menus. 

I'd be very grateful if someone could help.
