Hello, I am glad to be able to announce the Debian packages of SableVM 1.11.1 and Free Java SDK 1.0 that have been uploaded to Unstable distribution.
Hopefully (if we are to believe that Sarge will actualy release :-) these will be the last major updates that will get into Debian Sarge. Please give them a try. Programs like Ant, Eclipse, Jetty or Tomcat should pretty much "just run". SableVM 1.1.9 -> 1.11.1 - the most visible changes ================================================== - Implemented most of the missing JNI 1.2 new JNI 1.4 nio related functions. - Implemented basic JDK home support (including rt.jar symlink to libclasspath.jar). - Fixed the java-sablevm wrapper to better handle LD_LIBRARY_PATH, -Djava.library.path and CLASSPATH setting. - Fixed Object.wait() when timeout is specified. This fixes Ant pauses. - Imported GNU Classpath CVS snapshot as of March 12, 2005 (post 0.14) - Changed to a new release numbering schema. - Fixed various bugs. For the full announcements and longer lists of changes please see: * 1.1.10 - http://sablevm.org/lists/sablevm-announce/2005/000004.html * 1.11 - http://sablevm.org/lists/sablevm-announce/2005/000005.html Soon, SableVM will also include JVMDI and JDWP interfaces that make it possible to debug Free Java libaries and and applications e.g. with Eclipse. For the preview of this future release see: http://sablevm.org/screenshot.html Free Java SDK ( free-java-sdk ) short introduction and explanation ================================================================== The goal of the Free Java SDK is to provide a coherent, robust and stable development and runtime environment similar to the JAVA_HOME found in non-free Java environments. Users and developers can simply apt-get install free-java-sdk and use /usr/lib/fjsdk as their JAVA_HOME. Please note that the Free Java SDK does NOT use Debian "alternatives" and it does NOT provide any own "alternatives" system. Instead, it uses a predefined set of tested and robust Free Software tools for Java to deliver an environment that is reliable and immune to system configuration changes. Enjoy! Grzegorz B.
