Hello folks, Debian Junior Desktop has been activated for weekly live image builds [1]. I think that this "Developer Edition" of Debian Junior is an important milestone for our project. People who are interested to support development, can download the image [2] and provide feedback, do testing and contribute to the project.

Junior Desktop is based on the Icewm X Window Manager and will come along with a set of applications and utilities. IceWM is a fast and memory-efficient Window Manager for X Window System. IceWM supports multiple workspaces. Has got a task bar, window list and mailbox status. Thunar is a fast and easy to use file manager. The user can create new files bases on Templates. Mount remote file systems and use bookmarks for important places. LibreOffice is a full-featured office productivity suite. * libreoffice-writer: Word processor * libreoffice-calc: Spreadsheet * libreoffice-impress: Presentation * libreoffice-draw: Drawing * libreoffice-base: Database * libreoffice-math: Equation editor Evolution is a groupware suite which integrates mail, calendar, address book, to-do list and memo tools. Epiphany is the default web browser for Debian Junior Desktop. Dino-IM is a modern chat client with a nice and clean look. Dino supports also audio and video calls. GPX Viewer is an application allows the user to load a GPS trace. You are also shown the trace on an OpenStreetMap map, where you can scroll around and zoom. GCompris is a high quality educational software suite, including a large number of activities for children aged 2 to 10. Some of the activities are game orientated, but nonetheless still educational. Debian Junior Desktop comes along with gnome-calculator, gnome-clocks and mousepad. VLC is a power-full media player. It plays MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MOV, WMV, QuickTime, WebM, FLAC, MP3, Ogg/Vorbis files, DVDs, VCDs, podcasts, and multimedia streams from various network sources. Stellarium renders 3D photo-realistic skies in real-time. With Stellarium, you really see what you can see with your eyes, binoculars or a small telescope. kturtle is an educational programming environment which uses the TurtleScript programming language (inspired by Logo) to make programming as easy and accessible as possible. pySioGame is a set of educational activities and games for children aged between 3 and 10. The activities are grid based and can be played all in a single window. pySioGame includes maths, reading, writing, painting, and memory activities. Evince is a simple multi-page document viewer. It can display and print PostScript (PS), Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), DjVu, DVI, Portable Document Format (PDF) and XML Paper Specification (XPS) files. eog or the Eye of GNOME is a simple graphics viewer. ... and some more games ... -- Stefan
