I've tried to isolate this a while ago. You'll also see that if you have different backgrounds, suddenly they become all the same as the desktop on which you used Alt-F2 the first time. It's (or at least was) in the xim creation patch from the Japanese KDE user group: www.kde.gr.jp/patch. A bit of a catch-22 here: without the patch the functionality of KDE for Japanese users seems to be much less; with that patch we have these annoyances. I've downloaded the source package and 'patch -R'-ed this to get rid of the annoyances; I don't speak Japanese anyway. Bart
