I had the same problem at upgrading from KDE 2.0 -> KDE 2.0.1 a while ago. I think that there was changed something internal of config files of the menu bar. AFAIK the new kmail uses the old config files, because they were not overwritten. I did deinstall kmail and delete the files 'kmcomposerui.rc' and 'kmmainwin.rc' in /usr/share/apps/kmail by hand. Then install kmail again and it should work. Thomas
