I'm currently running the testing distribution of Debian (woody). I've been having trouble for about 2 months with launching konsole from the panel and application menu. If I click on the konsole icon or select "Terminal" from the System menu on the application menu, a konsole window flashes on screen for an instant, then disappears. I observe similar behavior from the "Run Command.." option in the application menu as well when I try to run any x application.
If I open an xterm and run konsole at the command line, konsole runs fine. Furthermore, if I change my default shell to csh or tcsh, konsole runs just fine from the panel and application menu, and the "Run Command.." on the application menu works. I'm suspecting this is a configuration problem somewhere on my machine. Looking at the .xsession-errors file after attempting to start konsole, I find, QObject::connect: Cannot connect KAction::activated() to Konsole::(null) /bin/bash: error while loading shared libraries: /bin/bash: undefined symbol: history_max_entries WARNING: KDE detected X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9 Major opcode: 14 It's the /bin/bash: error that bothers me. I have the LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to include /lib, /usr/lib, and /usr/local/lib. I'm using the following software versions, bash 2.05-4 konsole 2.1.1.0-10 kdebase 2.1.1.0-10 libc6 2.2.3-5 Has anyone had similar problems? I have another machine with the same software versions, but have no trouble with it, and I can't find where the difference lies. I've searched for information on the mailing list , bug list, and the web, but to no avail. Thanks for any help.
