Ok, I didn't mention some things: I was using the megagradient
theme with anti-aliasing. Using just one or the other didn't
crash my system. Using both did with that site or opening new
windows in general. I'm using a Matrox G400 and (obviously) it
has its RENDER extensions enabled.
After I read your message I just went to recheck (was I
getting nuts?) and I was able to narrow the bug to those
conditions. :-)
So, it is still there. :-)

P.S.: I was not using any special locale -- I was using the C locale.
I haven't tested the impacts of installing a new locale yet.
