Now following up my own email, in very poor form, it appears that the patches I'm referencing are just for the dialogue, not actually authenticating-proxy-https support, which is partially in cvs. So, pretty much, never mind :-) I have no problem hand editing a file, so long as it works. I'll go back to sleep now......
