I've found that I have to play around with the setting of $TERM, the keymaping of konsole, depending on what shell I'm using, and also what OS (bash on solaris works different when I'm telneted to a sun box than it does in linux). However, I've never had a situation that I wasn't able to find the "right" combo... For example, to get all my keys working correctly, I use xterm (xfree 3.x.x), with $TERM=xterm. That gives me color in vim, working backspace *and* delete, and pgup/pgdwn. - -- "To me vi is Zen. To use vi is to practice zen. Every command is a koan.
